In more modern times, the tower adapted to new roles. It served as an observation post during both World War I and World War II. Its main function helping to monitor naval activity and safeguard Malta’s shores.

Today, the Santa Marija Tower has been lovingly restored, giving visitors the chance to explore its fascinating history. Stepping inside feels like traveling back in time, with every stone and corner whispering tales of Malta’s maritime past.

If you are willing to visit the tower, you can contact Din l-Art Helwa, the non profit organisation that manages it. Usually the tower is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from April to end of October between 10.30am and 3.00pm. A Maltese flag raised in the tower, is a sign that it’s open for visitors.
